The Ageing Factor

“The need to be in competition returns”

I recently read about Lance Armstrong’s intent to return to cycling. For those of you who don’t know (or if you’ve been living under a rock!), Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France cycling championship a record 7 times. What’s even more remarkable is he achieved such a feat after surviving testicular cancer.

Now at aged 37, Lance Armstrong plans to return to racing after 3 years. This got me thinking about the matter of age and performance. When or is there a correct time to retire?  Can ’older people’ realistically compete at the highest level? What do you think?
